What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is seeking a visionary and strategic Learning & Development Director to evolve, scale, and elevate our L&D function. In this newly created role, you’ll have the opportunity to shape a high-impact Center of Excellence that drives talent growth, leadership development, and organizational capability. You will report to the Chief People Officer and will have the opportunity to be hybrid (2 days per week in the office at a minimum) in our Long Beach Headquarters.

How you can make an impact

  • Build and lead a Learning and Development Center of Excellence aligned with the organization’s strategic framework and evolving learning needs.
  • Develop and promote best practices, tools, and methodologies to ensure consistency, efficiency, and scalability in learning delivery.
  • Lead innovation by piloting new learning initiatives and continuously refining programs based on data and feedback.
  • Collaborate across the organization to ensure learning strategies are integrated, aligned, and support cross-functional goals.
  • Conduct training needs assessments to identify skill gaps and inform program design.
  • Design and oversee delivery of comprehensive learning programs, including leadership development, onboarding, compliance, and professional growth.
  • Assist with succession planning strategies to identify and prepare high-potential employees for future leadership and critical roles.
  • Align Learning and Development initiatives with performance management (e.g., coaching managers to provide development feedback) and ensure learning programs incorporate defined competencies.
  • Partner with the HR Business Partners, business leaders, and external vendors to ensure alignment and effectiveness of learning initiatives.
  • Select and implement learning technologies and platforms that enhance accessibility, engagement, and impact.
  • Define and track metrics to evaluate learning effectiveness and ROI; use insights to drive continuous improvement.
  • Champion a culture of learning, growth, and development across all levels of the organization.
  • Manage overall L&D budget, including tracking expenditures and negotiating contracts with external vendors, consultants, and training partners.
  • Stay current on industry trends and emerging practices in learning and development.
  • Represent the organization professionally at conferences, seminars, and networking events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, or a related field required. (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) or similar certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in learning and development, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role required.
  • Demonstrated success in building or significantly scaling a Learning and Development function.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS), e-learning tools, and blended learning approaches.

Pay Range

USD $150,000.00 - USD $180,000.00 /Yr.
