What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is looking for a summer 2026 intern to join our deep well injection team. This opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience in both technical engineering and business operations through a diverse range of client projects while giving you the chance to explore the beginnings of your own career path. Ideally, the intern will work primarily in our Morton IL office, with the option to work in our Wichita KS office depending on location. This position will involve frequent field work with possible overnight travel and the opportunity for remote work.

 

As an intern, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals on projects centered around permitting and construction for Underground Injection Control (UIC) projects; groundwater sampling, reporting, and permitting; and other environmental projects for our solid waste, electric utilities, and manufacturing clients. You will typically work 40 hours per week.

How you can make an impact

You will contribute to our projects by assisting SCS project teams with tasks including (but not limited to):

  • UIC well construction observation and documentation
  • UIC well permitting and regulatory engagement efforts
  • Environmental sample collection
  • Laboratory data management and review
  • Environmental reporting and calculation preparation

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in civil, environmental, geological, or biological systems engineering and graduating by June 2028 required.
  • Must be willing to commute to the Morton IL office (preferred) or the Wichita KS office as requested for Summer 2026 (housing allowance will not be provided)
  • Solid technical and computer skills (Excel, ArcGIS, and/or AutoCAD experience is a plus)
  • Experience with specialized geologic/hydrogeologic software (e.g., Petrel, Rockworks, MODFLOW and other modeling software) is a plus
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing required
  • Ability to travel during working hours or overnight for work outside of an office setting may be required.
  • Preference for candidates who demonstrate a desire to pursue a career in consulting and professional licensure upon graduation.

Pay Range

USD $20.00 - USD $24.00 /Hr.
